well, a ton of stuff has happened since my last post. (i guess i'm not that great at keeping you all updated...oh well.)
school has started, and it's going pretty well! my class schedule is interesting: i have two 3-hour classes on tuesday, (a hungarian history class and then a class on drug use, policies, and prevention,) which means i'm in class pretty much straight through from 11:20am-6pm. so tuesday is pretty brutal. on wednesday, we have our field studies class, which is usually field trips, though we'll sometimes have guest speakers. So far we have gone to a jewish synogogue and museum, taken a boat tour of the Danube river, and gone to a women's prison and a castle in a town in northern hungary. On Thursday, we only have one (3 hour) class, but it starts at 8am. so basically, our schedule is really nice except for the times when we're actually in class, 'cause then we're either falling asleep or in class for 6 hours straight. (yes, i know, 8am isn't that early...but for some reason, college classes at 8am always seem terribly early...)
so that's what's happening on the school side of things. i mentioned last post that we were planning a trip to croatia, and we went there last weekend. croatia is beautiful! there are gorgeous views, and pretty towns and shops. all of us went to croatia, but we split up into two groups to make traveling easier. my group (me and three other girls) went to the town of split for a day & night and then went to the island of Hvar for a day & night before catching the train from split back to budapest. it was gorgeous and fun!! split is on the coast, so we hit the beaches there as well as walking around in the basement of an old castle and through the town looking at shops and stuff. at hvar, we stayed in this quaint little town on the water. it was pretty and quiet and very removed from fast-paced modern ways of life, so it was very relaxing. we got to take a ferry to Hvar and back, which again was beautiful, so that seems to be the theme of the trip :-) we also got to see a lot of views from the train on the way there and back, which was good because it was about 16 hours each way....that was interesting. (sleeping on a train can be more difficult than you think...but we managed)
this weekend, we're planning on staying in budapest to sorta recharge and see the city that we're living in ;-) should be nice!!!!
i will try to upload some pictures soon!
